Ideas to Go - Pass it On
- The hottest new winter accessory this season is the snood. It’s like a hat and a scarf wrapped up into one warm piece of headgear! Don’t you just love it when fashion and comfort come together so warmly?
- When picking out your new winter coat, warmth is obviously a major factor. But don’t skimp on fashion just to keep cozy! A wool coat is a great investment on the warmth factor, but it’s also completely stylish and sophisticated. Stick to the classic colours: black, brown and grey. Then highlight your look with splashes of colour on scarves, hats and gloves. And here’s a hint: You can’t go wrong with all shades of blue this season! We’re talking electric blue, navy blue and icy mint …as if you don’t already have enough ice in your life!
- If you’re a plaid person, then you’re in luck and you’ve got good taste!. Lots of the new coats have plaid incorporated into the design, usually as detail inside pockets and collars. It’s a hot pattern (it always will be, right?) plus it adds something rustic and cozy to an elegant coat.
- Speaking of cozy, knitwear is hot this season and we’re not just talking chunky sweaters although they’re still fantastic as well! Knit dresses will keep you oh-so-warm on those days when you want an extra thick layer, not to mention chic and shapely too.
- Get your vitamins! If the cold is keeping you inside, you’re likely not getting enough vitamin D, and that’s really going to affect your mood. If you find yourself feeling more “down” than usual, consider a vitamin supplement. It’s worth it.
- Get your exercise. Staying active in the winter doesn’t need to be a drag. In fact, it’s a fantastic excuse to invest in some winter workout gear. Look for quality, insulated exercise suits, hats and gloves. You might find that early and late winter is the perfect weather to work up a good sweat in, because it’s way more refreshing than in the summer months. And on really cold days when you can’t go outside? With Wii Fit on the market, you’re out of excuses!
- Get outside! This season, commit to one new winter sport or activity, like skiing, snowboarding or cross-country. You might not be an expert by spring, but at least you’ve learned something new, and have kept your mental and physical health up.
- Give yourself a break. Your body works hard during the winter and needs a little extra TLC. Allow yourself to stay in for the evening, light some candles and throw on a new relaxing CD. While you’re at it, treat yourself to a healthy snack, like popcorn. Or even something a little more indulgent… chocolate anyone?
- This one’s obvious! No winter is complete without a solid day of tobogganing. Surprise the kids with a new sled then hit the slopes! And don’t come home until everyone’s cheeks are rosy red and you're all craving some hot chocolate!
- Movie Night! Who doesn’t love one of these? Let the family vote on a new DVD, and stock the kitchen with movie snacks: chips, buttered popcorn and something chocolate!
- Have a Games Night and invite the neighbours. Purchase a new game or two (for the kids) and pull out all the classics (for the adults). Make it a real competition by selecting some small gifts as prizes.
- Take a road trip! You don’t need to go anywhere exotic, but a long drive can help fend off that winter restlessness that starts setting in when it’s been cold for a while. Make it fun by bringing a bag of “surprises,” small, inexpensive gifts and treats that the kids get to pick from every hour or so. It will keep them quiet and happy which will make you pretty happy too! And best of all, you’ll be making a special memory that will last a life time!
